His purpose now fulfilled, Marika exiled Godfrey and his warriors from the Lands Between, making them the first Tarnished. But after his last worthy opponent fell, Godfrey's warrior spirit sank, the hue from his eyes faded and he lost the guidance of grace. Godfrey led the war against the Giants, whose flame threatened the Erdtree, and faced the Storm Lord alone. Morgott and Mohg however, were both born as accursed Omen, and were imprisoned deep below the capital in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds. Godwyn would become a mighty warrior like his father, and the progenitor of the so-called "Golden Lineage", whose last known descendant would be Godrick the Grafted. As Queen Marika was a goddess, the children she had with Godfrey possessed demigod status. Godfrey and Marika had three confirmed children: Godwyn the Golden, and the twins, Morgott and Mohg. He would be served by 16 Crucible Knights, who were renowned warriors fighting with the power of the crucible of life, the primordial form of the Erdtree.

Godfrey would lead Marika's armies in a long campaign to defend the Erdtree and her newborn Golden Order.

Upon vowing to become a lord, Godfrey took the spectral Beast Regent Serosh upon his back, to suppress his ceaseless lust for battle. At some point, the newly ascended goddess Marika made this ferocious warrior her consort and first Elden Lord.
